About
Leonardo Valverde, the mind behind V. Lander is a part time musician based in San José, Costa Rica. He's best known for his work with local alternative band, <a href="spotify:artist:2GDqxAIoVhLMmtFP0NrUlA" data-name="424">424</a>. V. Lander's debut album, Colina, was released in June, 2020. Founded by an obsession with audible textures, melodies, dynamics, and a never ending love for vintage sounding instruments, the artist started producing songs back in 2012. Once the album was finally sketched, most of the parts were recorded at Leo's moving home studio. A portion of the album was also recorded at Miut Audio alongside Giancarlo Tassara, who later on re-joined Colina to co-produce/mix/master the record. Based on a current production mindset but avoiding its abuse, the record features a combination of colours pictured in different music eras. A variety of vocal textures travel constantly from 80’s analog polysynths, to symphonic orchestrations found in 90’s Latin pop ballads. This blend shows an organic musical interpretation, a somewhat cinematic rock album, revealing the author's extensive music palette scratched during the last decade; including European alt-rock, pop, folk, prog-rock, film scoring, electronica, and even a shade of hip-hop. The heart of Colina's cover art is a painting named Full Color Shadow by Costa Rican artist, Fabián Monge. A digital intervention was done by local artist and producer Felipe Pérez Biamonte (<a href="spotify:artist:2GDqxAIoVhLMmtFP0NrUlA" data-name="424">424</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5h12sX9RZ4ghIzi5HWJIsu" data-name="Achará">Achará</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6gwp8IA2ScjOYioLntz49Y" data-name="Flpprz">Flpprz</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3vfxTzcnsofBBO6OQXbn99" data-name="Soy Felpa">Soy Felpa</a>). The end result is the perfect visualization of V. Lander's music.
