On Vaudeville Skies, Seattle-based singer/songwriter As Anthony presents an electro-tinged pop dream, where clouds of synth-sparkle float past hyper-color neon melodies. A record for late nights and early mornings, Vaudeville Skies wraps lush production around swooning vocals to create an experience that is at once intimate and grand. Written, produced, and recorded by As Anthony, the record features vocals from Minnesota folk artist Kelley Smith and Seattle multi-instrumentalist Mitch Etter (Hi Crime) on “With You”. Thematically, the record is a meditation on identity and self-determination. “I think there's a lot of restlessness in the record,” Anthony says. “A desire to start over somewhere new. The song 'Vaudeville Skies' came about during a time when I was constantly daydreaming about leaving behind the life I’ve made. But, at the same time realizing that even if I followed through with it I would still be under the same skies as I always ways.” Ultimately, Vaudeville Skies implores the listener to counter the restlessness that pervades our current realities by indulging in the occasional flight of fancy. “We're all in the same boat, to use a cliche. But, I prefer to think of it instead as all of us being on the same stage. And a stage is meant for performing, so let's entertain ourselves.”
